Telehealth psychiatry and therapy
We offer in-person and telehealth appointments for psychotherapy and medication management, so you can get care in the way that suits you best.
What is telehealth psychiatry?
Telehealth psychiatry, also called telepsychiatry or online psychiatry, means meeting your provider by secure video instead of in the office. You get the same personal care, without the drive or the waiting room. For many patients it is the easiest way to see an online psychiatrist in Michigan without leaving home.
What you can do by telehealth
- Online therapy and counseling sessions
- Medication management follow-ups
Benefits of virtual appointments
- No travel time, which makes it easier to fit care around work, school and family.
- Care from the comfort and privacy of your own space.
- Easier to keep regular follow-up appointments.
- A good option when getting to the office is hard because of weather, transport or health.
What you will need
- A private place where you can talk freely.
- A phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone.
- A reliable internet connection.
When an in-person visit may be better
Some care needs to happen in the office. For example, Spravato® treatment must be given at our certified center, and some ADHD and psychological testing is best done in person. Your first psychiatric evaluation may also be in person, depending on availability.
We see patients in person at 2774 Birchcrest Dr. SE in Grand Rapids. Ask our team whether telehealth is available where you are located.
Frequently asked questions
Is telehealth as effective as an in-person visit?
For many people, therapy and medication follow-ups by video work well. Your provider will let you know if an in-person visit would be better for your situation.
Is a telehealth visit private?
Our team follows HIPAA and treats every patient with respect and confidentiality. Choose a private space for your visit.
Does insurance cover telehealth appointments?
Many plans cover telehealth visits, including some Medicare and Medicaid plans. Contact our office and we will help you check your coverage.
Can I switch between telehealth and in-person visits?
Often, yes. Many patients mix both. Talk to our team about what works for your care.
How do I book an appointment?
Use the appointment request form on our contact page or call 616-988-3422. Our team will contact you to find a time that works for you.
Do you accept insurance?
